Xen is a queer filmmaker from Albuquerque, New Mexico currently residing in San Francisco, California. With a vast background in film, they have spent most of their time working in the community as a media educator. Xen currently strives to encourage youth of color, and queer youth, to create moving image to tell a story, which may have never been told otherwise.
Xen uses digital and analogue forms of moving image art, as well as still images. Their work is experimental, engaging alternative forms of storytelling, including the use of interactive performance. Xen’s inspiration comes from their traditional New Mexican upbringing inspiring a surreal environment as the base for their vision.
Through their as an artist and media educator, Xen shines light on topics and stories that are underrepresented in the larger film community. They work to inspire alternative forms of media art to express that art originates from all different values, expressions, and backgrounds. Like many other underrepresented artists, Xen believes using available resources can inspire one to think on a larger creative spectrum, telling their story on a whole other level.
